Marsha Blackburn May Need to Be Mac’s VP Pick.

She might, just maybe, need that job.

Tennessee’s own Republican sweetheart, 7th district’s Congressional Representative Marsha Blackburn has a primary challenger named Tom Leatherwood. He is the Shelby County Register or Deeds. Leatherwood is beating Blackburn over the head in a nasty little regional fight. He looks like he could take the district's strongest county and maybe a few others nearby.

This may be breaking news to many of you but she's not as loved in the west side of her district near Memphis as she is loved around Nashville.

At this point, the primary match up looks like two children fighting over who made the mess in their play pen. Not one issue is being discussed, just a lot of stupid childish bickering. That’s probably because there is not a hill of beans worth of difference between the two of them. The greatest concern seems to be over FEC complaint filings. It is a silly tit for tat thing. Of course, Leatherwoods tat looms much larger than Blackburn’s … um, meager response. Apparently, her well publicized digging into his records as Register of Deeds has not given her much ammunition with which to rely in a substantive rebuttal.

The most humorous was the argument that Leatherwood’s yard signs did not have a “paid for by Tom Leatherwood” or some such disclaimer on the bottom of them. As one drives around looking at many different candidates’ signs, one might notice a whole lot of newly added disclaimers. Thanks to Blackburn, this little bit of scandalous campaign strategy has been exposed and the culprits are on the run both on the state and federal level.

I still think she will win the primary but I would not lay any money on it.

Pardon me while I momentarily enter a fantastical dream sequence:

Imagine your computer screen blurring and then:

hmmmmm... Personally, I would be absolutely thrilled to see her lose. I would throw a huge party complete with a bag of pretzels and that special jar I keep behind my wife’s junk on top of the fridge. I will invite all my hounds to the deck out back and we will howl into the night whether the moon is full or not. Yeah, Yeah, I know but that’s just how me and my homies roll.

The police will come… I will retire to bed and wake up to a better world.

‘Enough of the dreaming Your screen blurs and returns to reality.

Oh well, facts are facts.

Leatherwood unseating Blackburn would be the first unseating of an incumbent congressman in Tennessee since 1974, I think. Hence, I offer no wagers.

Sigh.

One more thing!

I wonder what Leatherwood makes of this next news flash. I read this morning where Blackburn has recently pooh-poohed the whole coal carbon capture thing. She seems to believe, along with Columbia University, that it will cause global earth quaking or some crap like that. I guess that is the Washington Republican’s version of global warming. I am left thinking that this is to deflect public opinion away from coal and keep America's focus on the other black gold.

Oil, it’s for dinner. No side dishes allowed.
